Zoroaster/Zarathustra (c BCE) was a prophet and spiritual teacher who founded the religion of Zoroastrianism. Zoroaster was a religious reformer teaching a monotheistic religion based on choosing between light and darkness – truth and falsehood. Zoroaster was born in Northeast Iran, close to the border of modern day Afghanistan (Old Persian Empire). His exact . The main sources for the life and career of Zoroaster are the Avesta, the sacred book of the Zoroastrians, the oldest and most reliable source; later Zoroastrian literature, among which Denkart, an encyclopedic work in Middle Persian, stands out; and non-Zoroastrian works, which include Persian, Arabic, Armenian, and classical histories.

Baha’u’llah’s further teachings on Zoroaster depend on a close reading of answers to various questions posed by a prominent Zoroastrian, Maneckji Limji Hataria (–), who was “appointed as the first emissary of the Society for the Amelioration of the Condition of Zoroastrians in Persia” and “worked tirelessly to rebuild the communal leadership and religious infrastructure. “Zoroastrianism” is the name of the religion Zoroaster first devised sometime before the Persian king Cyrus the Great set up the Persian empire in the sixth century BC, perhaps, in the time when the Persians were still migrating south of the Caucasus towards their eventual homeland, between c BC and about BC.
